Titanium Aero Structures

Our PM-HIP technology has the capability to form complex shapes in titanium, which can replace conventionally processed forged or ‘machined from solid’ structures embedded in wing, fuselage and empennage areas. The weight difference ratio from raw forging to final machined part (known as ‘Buy-to-Fly’) can be reduced from 5:1 to 2:1 or even 1.5:1. This results in huge savings in both material and machining time.

Proxima PM-HIP processed alloys are created to bear huge loads on both take-off and landing, again and again. Steels and titanium form our core range of materials for this purpose, as they’re capable of meeting the most stringent of specifications whilst still providing savings in machining time and consumables (due to the isotropic nature of the micro structure). The weight difference ratio from raw forging to final machined part (known as ‘Buy-to-Fly’) can be reduced from 5:1 to 2:1 or even 1.5:1, resulting in huge savings in both material and machining time.
